Sentry 8501 Portal Monitor

Sentry 8501 DetectorsThe Sentry 8501 Portal Monitor has an internal 2” x 2” sodium iodide scintillation detector supported by a 256 multi-channel analyzer. A high resolution digital camera provides photograph(s) of any event that may trigger the system.

Automatic calibration and built-in performance evaluations provide system reliability. Background radiation is automatically subtracted from all counting functions, thus providing a corrected count sampling at one second intervals. The alarm trigger threshold level is set automatically for 2X background (or can be manually set to another desired level.) The counting circuitry has a 1 ms response time to a detected event.

Sentry 8501 MicroprocessorThe 8501 microprocessor allows for maximum system flexibility and the Windows XP operating system offers a user-friendly interface. The touch-screen LCD display permits instructions to be entered as required by tapping the display in the locations prompted by the computer.

The Sentry 8501 can be used in medical facilities where diagnostic nuclear studies are performed. Since the monitor ignores energy levels of radioisotopes typically used in clinical practice, a patient injected with a radioactive material will not trigger the alarm as they pass by the system detectors. Energies lower than 500 KeV are treated as normal environmental background. If higher energies of radioactive materials are detected, the Sentry 8501 Audio Alarmmonitor automatically switches to the 1 MeV range, acquires a spectrum, identifies the isotope, activates the audio and visual alarms, photographs the area, logs the event and can wirelessly notify specific individuals responsible for the system. When the count rate returns to its normal background level, the system reverts to its Area Monitoring Mode.  More
